Rip-Rap & Shoreline

Stone revetments that slow erosion along open bayfront and creek shorelines.

Heavy stone rip-rap along a sandy shoreline beside a new pier with a handrail

On open water, every storm takes a little more of the bank. A properly placed stone revetment breaks up the waves before they reach the soil, and it pairs naturally with a new pier landing.

Stone is heavy and awkward to bring in by land. The barge lets us deliver it and place it from the water, right where it’s needed.

Several of the bayfront piers in our gallery got new rip-rap at the landing in the same job, so the shoreline and the pier were finished together.

FAQ

Rip-Rap & Shoreline: common questions.

Don’t see your question? Call Vaughan at (804) 815-3069.

Will rip-rap stop my shoreline erosion?

A well-built revetment greatly slows wave erosion on most open shorelines. We’ll look at your bank and tell you what we recommend.

Can you do the shoreline and a new pier together?

Yes. Doing both in one job is common, and it means the barge and crew only have to mobilize once.
