Piers & Docks
New piers, long bayfront walkways, platforms and stairs down to the beach, built on new pilings.
A good pier gets you from the yard to the water without a second thought. Haywood Marine drives the pilings, frames the structure and lays the decking, whether it’s a short walk to a creek platform or a long run out past the shallows on the bay.
Most of the piers on this site were built from the water. The crew works off a barge with an excavator, so pilings go in straight and heavy equipment never has to cross the yard.
Older docks that have lost decking, rails or pilings to storms and age can often be rebuilt on a solid footprint. Call and describe what you have. Vaughan will tell you straight whether it makes sense to repair or start over.
Do you repair docks or only build new ones?
Both. Many older docks can be rebuilt with new decking, framing or pilings. Call or send photos, and we’ll tell you what makes sense for yours.
How long a pier can you build?
The photos on this site include piers that run well out from shore to reach usable water depth. Length depends on the water, the property and what can be approved, so we look at the site first.
Do I need a permit for a new pier?
Most work over tidal water in Virginia needs approval from one or more agencies. We’ll talk through what your project is likely to need when we look at it.
Can you add a boat lift to the new pier?
Yes. A lift can be planned in from the start, so the pilings and framing are placed for it. See Boat Lifts.
